Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg to lead BBC's election night coverage
- Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg will be leading the BBC's election night coverage.
- They are the first duo to share anchor duties for poll coverage, taking over from Huw Edwards.
- The announcement comes after Huw Edwards resigned from the BBC following allegations.
The BBC announced that Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg will lead the election night coverage next month. They are replacing Huw Edwards, who anchored the broadcaster’s election night coverage in 2019. Kuenssberg hosts a Sunday morning politics program, and Myrie is the Mastermind presenter and BBC newsreader. This is the first time a duo has been chosen to front the BBC election night coverage. Huw Edwards had been suspended last July and formally left the BBC last month after reports claimed he paid a young person for explicit images. Myrie joined the BBC in 1987. The BBC's chief executive, Deborah Turness, mentioned they have assembled a fresh and dynamic team for the election night coverage. Other members of the BBC election night lineup include Prof Sir John Curtice and Jeremy Vine, who will be running the “swingometer” from Cardiff. There were reports that smaller parties like the Liberal Democrats and the Greens might be left out of televised debates. Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg will be assisted by the BBC’s political editor, Chris Mason. Nick Robinson and Rachel Burden will host the radio coverage on BBC Radio 4 and 5 Live. The BBC confirmed the lineup ahead of the general election on 4 July. Deborah Turness, the CEO of BBC News, praised the team for bringing insight and experience to the audience. The election night was previously presented by one anchor, with Edwards taking over from David Dimbleby in 2019. Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg are replacing Huw Edwards to lead the BBC's election night coverage. Kuenssberg will become the corporation's first female election night anchor. Myrie and Kuenssberg will be joined by several BBC News presenters for election night, including Reeta Chakrabarti, Jeremy Vine, Kirsty Wark, and Andrea Catherwood.
