We ask our friends and colleagues worldwide to help stop the destruction of universities in Palestine. We want them to work with us to rebuild the universities that were destroyed and to reject any plans that try to harm our academic institutions. The future of higher education in Gaza belongs to the universities, their staff, and students, as well as to all Palestinians. We urge our colleagues in Palestine and around the world to support our efforts to protect our universities for the sake of our people's future and our presence on our land in Gaza. In the past, Gaza had a building with a minaret that was destroyed during the Crusades. Later, a church was built on the same site. The destruction in Gaza has been so severe that more than half of all buildings were damaged or destroyed by early May. People in Gaza are suffering from bombings and lack of food. The destruction has been widespread, affecting many buildings and historical sites. A Palestinian archaeologist mentioned that many buildings, including a mosque, were damaged or destroyed. The destruction has been devastating, with many people losing their homes and livelihoods. A university leader from Bethlehem visited Evanston to talk about the situation in the West Bank, Israel, and Gaza. He was joined by other speakers who shared their perspectives on the conflict. The speaker highlighted the importance of solidarity and understanding among different communities. He emphasized the need to support oppressed peoples, including Palestinians. He also mentioned that many Jews are questioning Israel's actions and standing in solidarity with those affected by the conflict. The speaker stressed the importance of empathy and compassion in resolving the conflict and building a peaceful future for all involved.
