Harvey Weinstein set to face retrial in same courthouse as Trump's trial
- Harvey Weinstein is expected to appear before a judge in the same courthouse where Trump's trial is taking place.
- This court appearance is part of the legal proceedings for Weinstein's retrial in his #MeToo-era rape case.
- The convergence of these high-profile trials is drawing significant attention to the courthouse.
Harvey Weinstein, a former movie mogul, is going to court on Wednesday for his retrial due to rape charges. Manhattan prosecutors are looking into new claims of sexual misconduct against him. They might seek a new indictment based on these claims. Some new individuals have come forward with assault allegations, and prosecutors are checking if these claims are within the legal time limit. Some survivors who didn't testify in Weinstein's first trial might be willing to do so now. Weinstein arrived in court in a wheelchair, as he has done in recent hearings after his 2020 conviction was overturned. The prosecutors plan to update the court on the case's progress by the end of June. Weinstein's lawyer, Aidala, received a letter from prosecutors asking not to discuss or criticize potential witnesses publicly before the retrial. The defense argues that lies were told in the previous trial and might be repeated in this one. Weinstein's original trial took place in the same courtroom where Donald Trump is currently on trial, but they are kept separate. Weinstein is in custody and escorted to court. In his 2020 trial, he was convicted of raping Jessica Mann and sexually assaulting Miriam Haley. However, these convictions were overturned last month due to unfair testimony. Weinstein claims any sexual activity was consensual. The names of the survivors are not disclosed unless they agree to it.
