Egypt and China signed agreements to work together more closely. This happened when President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi visited Beijing. The two presidents, along with their foreign ministers, signed the agreements during a ceremony. This event marked the 10th anniversary of the partnership between Egypt and China. The Egyptian delegation talked about their relationship and how to bring peace to the Middle East, especially during the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. The agreements include working together on China's Belt and Road Initiative. This initiative involves Chinese companies building transportation, energy, and infrastructure projects in other countries. China has invested a lot of money in Egypt, particularly in projects like the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the new Administrative Capital near Cairo. In 2023, the investments between Egypt and China were about $14 billion, slightly less than the $16.6 billion in 2022. During the visit, President Xi Jinping and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed various matters. They met before the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum. The two leaders had official talks and witnessed the signing of agreements in areas like the Belt and Road initiative, science and technology, trade, and investment.
