Google to establish $2 billion data center and cloud hub in Malaysia
- Google to invest $2 billion in Malaysia for a new data center and cloud hub.
- This move marks Google's first major investment in Malaysia.
- The project aims to boost Google's presence in Southeast Asia.
Google is going to spend $2 billion in Malaysia to build a data center and a Google Cloud hub. This is a big move by a U.S. tech company in Malaysia. Microsoft also recently said they will invest $2.2 billion in Malaysia for cloud and artificial intelligence projects. The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, sees Google's investment as a good sign for Malaysia's government and economy. He believes this investment will bring in $3.2 billion and create 26,500 jobs by 2030. This is important for Anwar as he wants to strengthen his position against strong opposition. Google will set up the new hubs in a business park in Selangor state, Malaysia. This is to meet the growing need for cloud services and to teach artificial intelligence to Malaysian students and teachers. Malaysia will become the 12th country to have a Google data center. The Google Cloud hub in Malaysia will offer services to big companies, startups, and the government. This will be part of the 40 regions and 121 zones worldwide. Ruth Porat, the president and CFO of Alphabet Inc., said this investment will help Malaysia with its 'Cloud First Policy' and cybersecurity. Anwar met with Ruth Porat and other business leaders in the U.S. last year to discuss this investment.
