Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said he couldn't promise to reduce prices

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt accused his opposite number, Rachel Reeves, of "buckling under pressure" to rule out raising VAT in the next parliament, having "carefully and deliberately" avoided doing so all week.

The chancellor says a future Conservative government "will not increase VAT, income tax or national insurance", but when asked if he would remove VAT from dog food he says he "cannot make a commitment to reduce prices".
