San Leandro interim police chief appointed to permanent role

Angela Averiett has been appointed to serve as the next police chief of San Leandro.

A San Leandro police officer who was present but did not fire his service weapon when another officer fatally shot a man in a Walmart four years ago has filed a lawsuit alleging that the city damaged his career and violated his rights by publicly releasing investigative records related to the shooting.
