Two people, including a police officer, died in a shooting in southern Arizona early Saturday morning. Five people were injured, including another officer. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when officers were called to a disturbance at a home in the Gila River Indian Community, located 35 miles southeast of Phoenix. Gunshots were fired during the disturbance involving a large crowd. Among those injured were two police officers and four other individuals. Officer Joshua Briese and another person died from their injuries. The other officer is in serious but stable condition. The three other injured individuals are also being treated at hospitals. The Gila River Police Department is working with the FBI to investigate the incident. The Gila River Indian Community has a population of 14,000, including members of the Pima and Maricopa tribes. Officer Briese had been with the department for less than a year and was still in field training. An Arizona police officer was fatally shot, and another was wounded while responding to a disturbance call at the Gila River Indian Community. The officers arrived at a home after receiving an emergency call. Gunshots were fired as they addressed the disturbance, injuring six people, including the two officers. One community member died, and the other three injured individuals are hospitalized. Officer Briese died at the hospital. The FBI and Gila River Police Department are conducting a joint investigation. "Our hearts and prayers are with these police officers, their families, and everyone impacted by this tragic incident," said the police department.
