Biden to meet with Zelensky in Normandy and at next week’s G7, White House confirms

President Joe Biden will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Normandy, France. They will talk about Ukraine and how the US can support them more. This is important because Russia's invasion of Ukraine has brought a big war back to Europe. Biden will also meet Zelensky in Italy next week. They last met in person in Washington in December 2023. Biden signed a bill in April giving over $60 billion in aid to Ukraine after some political disagreements. The US has trained many Ukrainian soldiers and wants to continue and expand this training. The US Treasury Secretary is working to get European countries to help Ukraine by using Russian assets. This will be a big topic when Biden meets with French President Emmanuel Macron in Normandy. The US wants all G7 countries to help Ukraine so they can succeed in the war. Zelensky has been meeting with commanders and visiting other countries to get support. Russia has been attacking Ukraine with missiles and drones, causing damage and injuries. The UK Ministry of Defence says Russian forces are focusing on a specific area in Ukraine. Zelensky is trying to get more support for Ukraine's peace plan. Biden will not attend a peace summit organized by Zelensky, which has upset Ukraine. Instead, Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will go. Zelensky is not happy about Biden's absence and thinks it helps Putin. More than 100 countries will attend the summit to support Ukraine's peace plan. Zelensky has criticized Biden for not doing enough to help Ukraine. He thanked Biden for allowing US weapons to be used in Russia but wants more support. Zelensky met with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and leaders from other countries. China is not supporting Ukraine's peace initiative because Russia is not invited. Zelensky accused China of helping Russia and making the war last longer. Russia says Ukraine has used US weapons against them after Biden approved it.
