Story

Pittsburgh Public Schools students at 39 buildings will have online classes on Tuesday because it's too hot. The district decided to switch to remote learning due to the high temperatures. The list of affected buildings can be found on the school's website. When the weather service predicts temperatures of at least 85 degrees or a heat index of 90, Pittsburgh Public Schools move to online classes. Despite this change, students can still get grab-and-go meals at certain locations. This is the second time in two weeks that Pittsburgh Public Schools have shifted to remote learning because of the heat. Some parents are upset about the lack of air conditioning in the school buildings. The school board president mentioned financial challenges in installing air conditioning in all buildings. The district hired a consultant for $250,000 to come up with a plan to improve efficiency. Pittsburgh Public Schools estimate it would cost between $443 million and $552 million to install air conditioning in 37 buildings.
