Dr. Anthony Fauci will be at Capitol Hill on Monday morning for a hearing about his actions during the COVID-19 pandemic and thoughts on where the virus came from. This event starts at 10 a.m. ET and you can watch it live on USA TODAY's website or YouTube channel. Fauci, who used to lead the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and was the main medical advisor to the president, was in charge of the U.S. response to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. He will speak in front of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on Monday, his first time back in public since he left office in 2022. The hearing on Monday will be run by Republican Chairman Brad Wenstrup from Ohio. During a recent hearing, Dr. Fauci talked about how the COVID-19 vaccines were not as effective at stopping the virus from spreading as they were originally thought to be. He explained that while the vaccines did help prevent infection and transmission, the protection against getting sick, going to the hospital, or dying was longer-lasting than protection against getting infected. Fauci also mentioned that no vaccine is 100% effective, including the COVID-19 vaccine. He pointed out that even President Biden once wrongly said that vaccinated people couldn't get the virus, but later on, Biden himself got sick with COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated and boosted. Fauci will be testifying before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, June 3, about the response to the coronavirus pandemic.
