Story

In New York, Idris Elba's grandfather was in World War II, but Elba doesn't know what happened to him. The series will be on Disney+ and Hulu later. Over 8 million people of color served with the Allies. The show focuses on their experiences at D-Day, Dunkirk, Pearl Harbor, and the Battle of the Bulge. They used old footage, interviews, journals, and actors to tell the stories. Elba found it very emotional. The director, Shianne Brown, highlighted Waverly Woodson, Jr., a medic who helped wounded soldiers for 30 hours on Omaha Beach. Woodson is getting a posthumous award. Brown said many soldiers felt dehumanized before the war but were treated better in Europe. The filmmakers were touched when they found rare footage of non-white soldiers. Elba supported the filmmakers in telling these important stories.
