- The poll indicates a historic shift in political landscape with Labour expected to win a significant majority.
Grant Shapps was told on live TV that he might lose his seat in the upcoming election. The Defence Secretary called a reporter from Sky News, Sam Coates, while he was on air presenting the results of a big poll. When Shapps heard the news, he quickly hung up the phone. The poll suggests that Labour might win 422 seats, their highest ever, while the Tories might only get 140 seats, their lowest in over 100 years. This could mean a big win for Sir Keir Starmer, even bigger than Tony Blair's win in 1997. Shortly after the poll was shown on Monday, Coates got a call from Shapps while live on Sky News. He put Shapps on speakerphone and shared the bad news. Shapps said hello but then hung up. Coates told viewers what happened and laughed about it. The poll, which asked nearly 60,000 people between May 24 and June 1, also predicts that other Tory Cabinet members might lose their seats, like Jeremy Hunt, Penny Mordaunt, and Gillian Keegan. Other Cabinet members like Mark Harper, Alex Chalk, Mel Stride, and Michelle Donelan might also lose. The poll suggests that Labour might win a big majority of 194 seats, according to YouGov.
