Story

The jury listened to state troopers and members of the state police crime lab. More state police members are expected to testify this week. Proctor was the main investigator in John O'Keefe's death. Karen Read's defense team claims Proctor planted evidence and mishandled the investigation to protect friends who are witnesses. Proctor's lawyer did not respond to a request for comment from WBZ. The state wants him to testify. Legal analyst Jennifer Roman says the state might not call him to testify, leaving it to the defense to do so. The defense has said they will call him if the state doesn't. If they do, they may ask the judge to declare him a hostile witness to ask leading questions. Proctor has already testified in front of the grand jury. If he doesn't want to testify, he must inform the judge beforehand. If he doesn't testify, the defense can't comment on it to the jury. It's unclear if prosecutors will call Proctor to testify in the Karen Read case. Kristina Rex from WBZ-TV reports.
