- Persistence and talent lead to a remarkable triumph in the face of adversity.
Josh Onwunili, a talented track star from Campbellsport, Wisconsin, faced a problem. He was not allowed to run for his high school team because his parents were not living in the state. His parents were in Ghana, West Africa, working as missionaries. According to the rules, a student can only compete for the school in the area where their parents live. However, things changed for Josh. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association reversed its decision and gave him a special permission to compete. With this waiver, Josh participated in the state championships and won both the 100-meter and 200-meter races. He was very happy and grateful for the support he received. Wisconsin State Representative Jerry O'Connor helped Josh get the permission to compete. O'Connor worked with the WIAA to make sure Josh could run. After Josh's success, O'Connor congratulated him and praised his determination. Josh's story shows that with support and perseverance, obstacles can be overcome.
