Dallas Mavericks extend contracts of GM Nico Harrison and Coach Jason Kidd
- The Dallas Mavericks have signed GM Nico Harrison to a multi-year contract extension.
- The contract extension comes just before the team's appearance in the NBA Finals.
- The Mavericks are focused on securing their leadership for the future success of the team.
The Dallas Mavericks signed General Manager Nico Harrison to a new contract. This happened just before the team made it to the NBA Finals for the first time in 13 years. Nico Harrison has been with the team for three seasons. In those three seasons, the Mavericks made it to the Western Conference finals twice. This is a big deal because before Nico Harrison and Coach Jason Kidd joined the team in 2021, the Mavericks hadn't won a playoff series since 2011 when they won the championship. Nico Harrison used to work at Nike for 19 years before joining the Mavericks. He made some important trades that helped the team do well in the playoffs in 2022 and 2024. One of his big trades brought Kyrie Irving to the team from Brooklyn. Even though Irving and Luka Doncic didn't do so well in the 2022-23 season, they improved a lot in the next season. Harrison also made a trade to get Spencer Dinwiddie from Washington and ended the partnership between Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. This year, Harrison made more trades to bring in Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington Jr. These players have been important in helping the team in the playoffs. Last summer, the team got Dereck Lively II from Duke in the draft, and he has been doing well as a rookie. The Mavericks have been doing much better since Harrison and Kidd joined the team, winning five playoff series in three seasons. Nico Harrison is very grateful for the trust the team has shown in him. He is happy to work with the team's owners and Coach Jason Kidd to make the Mavericks a winning team. Harrison has a lot of experience in basketball, having played professionally in Europe for over six years. He also worked at Nike for a long time before becoming the Mavericks' general manager. The team also signed Luka Doncic to a big contract extension and made some good draft picks and trades that have helped them reach the NBA Finals.
