- Incident involving the assault on Steve Buscemi raises concerns about random acts of violence in New York City.
A man named Clifton Williams, aged 50, was charged with assaulting actor Steve Buscemi and another man in New York. He pleaded not guilty to one count of second-degree assault and two counts of third-degree assault. The incidents happened in separate locations in New York City. Williams is accused of hitting a 22-year-old man and a 66-year-old man within 10 minutes on May 8. The attacks were part of a series of random assaults in the city. The first incident occurred on Third Avenue and East 15th Street, where Williams punched the 22-year-old man, causing bruising and swelling on his face. The second attack took place on East 27th Street and Third Avenue, where Williams punched the 66-year-old man in the face while he was looking at his phone. The older victim's eye was injured, and he had to be treated at a hospital. In New York, if a victim is over 65 years old and the suspect is more than 10 years younger, a misdemeanor assault charge becomes a felony. Williams is facing a felony charge due to Buscemi's age. Buscemi's publicist mentioned that the actor was a victim of a random act of violence in the city. Buscemi is known for his roles in movies like "Reservoir Dogs" and TV series like "Boardwalk Empire." Clifton Williams, the suspect, was indicted for randomly punching Steve Buscemi and another person on the street. The judge set bail for Williams at $50,000 cash or $150,000 bond. The District Attorney stated that those who threaten or harm pedestrians in Manhattan will be held accountable. Buscemi, a Brooklyn native and former firefighter, has appeared in various movies and TV shows.
