Story

Growing concerns about mail theft in North Texas are worrying the United States Postal Service, homeowners, and business owners. The issue has become a big problem in the region. One woman from Fort Worth was caught trying to cash thousands of dollars in stolen business checks from the Dallas Post Office. This incident has made people rethink using the blue mailboxes that have been in place since 1973. Due to the theft of 46 checks in just one week, a company near the downtown Fort Worth post office has stopped using these mailboxes. To understand the extent of the problem, the I-Team and CBS Data Team joined forces to look into mail and package theft complaints in the area, covering 553 zip codes. They found 46 complaints related to mail theft in the same zip code as Rogers Wealth Group over the past three years. This has had a significant impact on small businesses in the area. According to the analysis by the CBS Data Team, Dallas has the highest number of mail theft complaints in North Texas. The zip code 75243 in Dallas reported 260 incidents over the past three years. Surprisingly, just 10 zip codes out of the 553 in the region accounted for more than 10% of all reported mail and package thefts. To reduce the risk of theft, it is recommended to drop off mail inside the post office instead of using outdoor mailboxes. You can also check the number of mail theft reports in your zip code and neighborhood on a map for better awareness of the situation.
