Republican Rep Joe Wilson endorses Nancy Mace's primary GOP challenger

Republican Representative Joe Wilson endorsed Nancy Mace's primary GOP challenger Catherine Templeton. Longtime Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) endorsed incumbent Rep. Nancy Mace‘s (R-SC) challenger on Tuesday. This is seen as a setback for Mace as she competes in a tough primary this month. Wilson, who has served in South Carolina‘s delegation for a long time, is supporting Catherine Templeton, a former director of South Carolina’s Department of Health and former US Brick president. Templeton shared the endorsement in a press release on Tuesday. She believes that with the challenges like inflation, taxes, crime, and illegal immigration, Congress needs more conservatives like her to support President Trump and the Lowcountry. Templeton expressed her gratitude for Wilson's endorsement as she aims to defeat Mace, who is running for her third term in November. Despite facing other primary challengers, Mace is currently leading in the polls and has the support of former President Donald Trump. Trump's endorsement could attract donors and lawmakers to Templeton's campaign, giving her an advantage in the primary. Templeton praised Wilson for his leadership and hard work for South Carolina, expressing her eagerness to collaborate with him in the future. A recent poll showed Mace leading with 47% of the vote, followed by Templeton with 22%, Bill Young with 7%, and 24% undecided. Mace had previously criticized Templeton as part of a revenge operation by former Rep. Kevin McCarthy. During a House floor discussion, Mace and Wilson had a tense exchange. Mace later stated that there is room in the party for different perspectives and individuals like herself, Wilson, Trump, MAGA supporters, independents, and women.
