CBS News Miami's Joan Murray talked about Operation Trigger Lock in Broward. The operation aimed at gang members and violent people. In Fort Lauderdale, the Broward Sheriff's Office led Operation Trigger Lock. They made over 100 arrests because there were more shootings, drug deals, and murders in Pompano Beach. The sheriff's office worked with the Broward State Attorney's Office, ATF Fort Lauderdale Office, DEA Miami Field Division, FBI Miami, and police departments like Davie, Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood. They focused on catching "violent offenders" and gang members involved in shootings. Sheriff Gregory Tony said they were able to carry out the operation without harming anyone. The people they arrested were very dangerous and had a lot of weapons. The operation lasted for six weeks and was done very well thanks to the hard work of the Crime Suppression Team in Pompano, district commanders, the Strategic Investigations Division, and federal partners. During the operation from April 16 to May 31, investigators did 14 residential search warrants, arrested 132 people, and found 38 guns and drugs like cocaine, fentanyl, alpha PVP, oxycodone, and heroin. The arrested people are facing charges from robbery to murder. The sheriff mentioned that this is just the start of their efforts to reduce violence, and they need help from residents, businesses, and schools to tackle the root causes of violence.
