Story

Crews quickly put out a fire in Napa County that burned many acres on Wednesday. The fire, called the Crystal Fire, started around 1:40 p.m. near Crystal Springs Road in St. Helena. By 5 p.m., it had spread to cover 60 acres. Firefighters worked overnight and by early Thursday morning, the fire was 75% contained. Luckily, no homes were damaged, but one building was destroyed. Four firefighters were hurt but have all been treated and released from the hospital. The firefighters were injured while fighting the fire in St. Helena. The fire burned near a winery, leaving one building surrounded by burnt land and smoke. The firefighters were hurt in the steep, rocky terrain and hot weather conditions. Despite warm temperatures, low humidity, and light winds helped the firefighters contain the fire. Residents saw air tankers dropping fire retardant, helicopters spraying water, and firefighters climbing the rocky hillside to put out the flames. The Crystal Fire started in a similar area as the Glass Fire in 2020. Even though there have been two big fires in the area recently, this fire season is not expected to be severe. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District warned of possible smoke impacts near Angwin and the Napa Valley from St. Helena to Calistoga. This is a breaking news update.
