Investigators found a hard drive in suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann's home with checklists of things to do before, during, and after the killings. He was linked to two more murders, bringing the total to six victims. The search for a missing woman in 2010 led to the discovery of 10 sets of human remains near Gilgo Beach. Some remains were connected to earlier discoveries on Long Island. The partial remains of Karen Vergata were found in 1996 on Fire Island, and new DNA analysis identified her in 2022. Valerie Mack's partial skeletal remains were found in 2000 in Manorville. Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Amber Lynn Costello, and Megan Waterman were also victims. Rex Heuermann, 60, has been charged with killing six women. The remains of Jessica Taylor were found in 2003, and more remains were discovered in 2011 during the search for Shannan Gilbert. Heuermann's wife was out of New York during the murders. He was charged with the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes. The former New York architect is expected to be arraigned on additional charges related to multiple other victims.
