Story

In Arapahoe County, kids had a fun day with the Public Works Department at Dove Valley Regional Park. They pretended to be Public Works Inspectors, learned about crosswalk safety, and even microchipped a stuffed animal. The kids were excited and learned a lot during the event. They also got to explore a big road and bridge truck, build sand homes, fill potholes, and draw sharks with chalk. Two kids, Owen and Josie Nelson, shared their favorite parts of the day with Brian Sherrod. Owen liked the cement truck and learned that cement is heavier than the truck. Josie enjoyed going on the truck and seeing cool things. The event lasted until 1 p.m. at Dove Valley Regional Park. Currently, crews are building three new roundabouts in Inverness West, Inverness East, and Inverness Boulevard near Dry Creek Road. The project, which started in May, aims to improve transportation safety and convenience for cyclists and pedestrians in the area. The Inverness Project, set to finish by 2024, will include a buffered bike lane, multi-use path, new lighting, and roundabouts along Inverness Drive West. These improvements will benefit over 50,000 daily drivers by enhancing safety and traffic flow. Brian Sherrod, a multimedia journalist and First Alert Traffic Tracker Reporter at CBS News Colorado, covered the event.
