Opal Lee, known as the Grandmother of Juneteenth, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her efforts in establishing Juneteenth as a national holiday. Events in various cities like Lewisville, Denton, and McKinney include music, food, and activities to commemorate Juneteenth. The Dallas Cowboys are hosting a Juneteenth Celebration with live entertainment, food trucks, and Black-owned businesses. Other events include community cleanups, a 4K Freedom Walk, and festivals with music, art, and food. The City of Forney's Juneteenth event will feature live music, food trucks, and vendors in partnership with the Xi Delta Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
