The University of California Board of Regents appointed University of Miami President Julio Frenk as UCLA's chancellor, replacing Gene Block as he retires. Frenk will begin his new role at UCLA on Jan. 1, 2025, and UM Board of Trustees has selected Joe Echevarria as acting president. Frenk led UM through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and made historic investments in various areas. He will be the first Latino to lead UCLA. UM is committed to an orderly leadership transition as they search for the next university president.
