Story

France forward Marcus Thuram has urged his compatriots to "fight" against the far right in the upcoming national parliamentary elections triggered by Rassemblement National's victory in the European elections. Thuram, the son of France legend Lilian Thuram, became the first player to politicize the European Championship by calling on citizens to reject RN during the tournament. French president Emmanuel Macron announced the snap poll following RN's European election triumph, led by Jordan Bardella, a protégé of Marine Le Pen. Thuram emphasized the seriousness of the situation and stressed the importance of explaining how they reached this point. He called on everyone to vote and highlighted the need to combat the far right's rise to power. Other players like Ousmane Dembélé and Olivier Giroud had also encouraged voting but Thuram took a clearer stance against the far right. The French Football Federation later emphasized that the team should not be subjected to political pressure.
