An officer accidentally shot through a wall at the Los Angeles Police Department's academy in Elysian Park on Monday. The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on June 17 when the officer was dry firing his department-approved, privately purchased firearm. Dry firing is the act of pulling the trigger of a weapon while it is unloaded or without live ammunition. The department labeled the incident as a Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge. The round fired by the officer may have landed outside the office, but it was never found. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident, as the officer was alone in his office at the time. The department's Force Investigation Division initiated an investigation into the matter. In a separate incident, Los Angeles Police Department officers were in pursuit of an allegedly armed suspect driving a white pickup truck. The suspect led officers on a high-speed chase, driving recklessly through parking lots, intersections, and opposing lanes of traffic. The pursuit reached speeds of up to 80 miles per hour on surface streets. The chase came to an end just after 10 p.m. near Riverside Drive in Studio City, where the driver quickly pulled over and surrendered along with the passenger. Both individuals were taken into custody without further incident.
