A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer at Florida's Naples Airport, William Timothy, pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $19,000 in cash from arriving international passengers. Timothy, 43, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. He stole the money during border enforcement examinations and currency verifications as part of his official duties. Timothy has agreed to pay full restitution to the victims and resign from his employment with CBP. Surveillance video showed him taking cash from passengers. He stole a total of around $18,700 from 18 passengers at Naples Airport between mid-2023 and early-2024. Timothy pleaded guilty to one count of converting property of another, with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. A sentencing date had not been set as of Tuesday.
