- Costco has urgently issued the recall after numerous reports of overheating and fires.
A Michigan-based company, myCharge, has issued a recall for approximately 567,000 portable battery chargers sold at Costco due to overheating issues. The myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh chargers with model numbers AO10FK-A, AO10FK-B, and AO10FK-C are affected. The recall was prompted by 120 reports of overheating incidents, including two residential fires, resulting in about $165,000 in property damage. Despite these incidents, there have been no injuries requiring medical attention reported. Costco customers who purchased the recalled chargers between January 2022 and November 2023 for around $40 are advised to immediately stop using them. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has instructed consumers not to dispose of the chargers in regular trash or battery recycling boxes due to the lithium-ion battery inside. Instead, consumers are directed to follow specific disposal procedures established by their local recycling centers for damaged or defective lithium batteries. Affected consumers can contact myCharge for a free replacement product by visiting the company's website. Costco has received 115 returns of the chargers, with customers reporting issues such as melting, expanding, smoking, fire, burning, exploding, or sparking. The CPSC emphasizes the importance of proper disposal of lithium-ion batteries to prevent any potential hazards.
