In a recent announcement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a total of 487 artists and entertainment industry figures have been invited to join the prestigious organization. Among the notable invitees are Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone, Past Lives director Celine Song, and actors Jessica Alba, Catherine O’Hara, and Fiona Shaw. The list also includes Oscar nominees and winners such as Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Cord Jefferson, and Justine Triet, as well as renowned craft professionals like costume designer Holly Waddington and choreographers Mandy Moore and Prem Rakshith. The Academy's efforts to increase diversity within its ranks are evident in this year's class, with 44% women and 41% from underrepresented ethnic and racial communities among the invitees. The total number of invitees from countries outside the US stands at 56%, reflecting a global representation within the Academy. If all invitees accept, the Academy's membership will reach 10,910, with 9,934 eligible to vote in the upcoming 97th Oscars in 2025.
