Story

Volkswagen has announced a recall of over 271,000 SUVs in the U.S. due to concerns that the front passenger airbag may fail to inflate during a crash. The recall affects specific Atlas SUVs from the model years 2021 through 2024, as well as some 2020 through 2024 Atlas Cross Sport SUVs. The car manufacturer revealed that a wiring issue under the front passenger seat could lead to a fault, potentially deactivating the sensor that detects a passenger's presence, thereby disabling the airbag and increasing the risk of injury in an accident. Drivers experiencing this fault would receive a warning sound and an error message on the instrument panel. Volkswagen advised owners to refrain from using the front passenger seat if possible until the necessary recall repairs are completed. Dealers will undertake the replacement of the sensor mat and wiring harness at no expense to the owners. The company plans to send out recall letters starting from August 16. Volkswagen disclosed that there have been 1,730 warranty claims that might be linked to this issue. This recall is not an isolated incident for Volkswagen this year, as earlier, the company had to urgently recall 6,000 Passat, Gold, and Arteon model cars in Australia due to concerns about a manufacturing defect that could potentially lead to a vehicle fire, posing risks of injury or death. The Department of Transport in Australia issued the recall in January, affecting nearly 6,000 cars registered on Australian roads. Volkswagen's recent recall in the U.S. highlights the company's commitment to addressing safety concerns promptly and ensuring the well-being of its customers. Owners of the affected SUV models are urged to heed the recall instructions and have the necessary repairs carried out to mitigate any potential risks associated with the airbag issue.
