Story

Plans have been unveiled to reopen the five Alamo Drafthouse movie theaters in North Texas, which were recently shut down. The decision comes after the dine-in movie theater chain was acquired by a new corporate owner, with Sony Pictures taking the lead in reopening locations in Dallas, Richardson, Las Colinas, Lake Highlands, and Denton. Additionally, a theater in Woodbury, Minnesota, near St. Paul, is also set to reopen. The previous owner, Two is One, One is None, LLC, had announced bankruptcy plans when closing the theaters. The move to reopen the theaters follows what Alamo Drafthouse officials describe as a successful summer with hit movies like "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," "The Bikeriders," and "Inside Out 2." CEO Michael Kustermann expressed excitement about reestablishing Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in these cities and supporting local film communities. Approximately 600 employees were affected by the closures, but the company has committed to compensating them for lost wages and providing enhanced benefits for rehired staff. Impacted employees will have priority for open positions and will benefit from an improved benefits package, including daily pay access, a substantial 401k match, paid medical leave, accrued PTO, and free mental health services. Furthermore, ticket holders who were owed refunds due to the sudden closures will receive complimentary ticket vouchers as a gesture of goodwill. The reopening of the Alamo Drafthouse theaters aims to not only revive the entertainment venues but also support the local workforce and moviegoers in the region.
