Story

In a significant development for residents and travelers in the Aurora Highlands community, increased accessibility is now available on E-470, also known as Exit 22 or Aurora Highlands Parkway. This highway, utilized by over 20,000 individuals daily, is set to provide enhanced connectivity for the growing population in the area. The Aerotropolis Regional Transportation Authority (ARTA) has revealed that the Aurora Highlands, currently home to 1,000 people, is projected to accommodate 60,000 residents in the coming years. Effective from Friday, June 28, drivers can anticipate improved access in all directions of E-470 and Aurora Highlands Parkway, with the north side having already been opened in December 2023. Spanning 4,000 acres, the Aurora Highlands is envisioned to evolve into a new downtown hub for Aurora. The comprehensive master plan encompasses the establishment of five schools, a 50-acre hospital site, and 13,000 housing units, including numerous apartments. Additionally, amenities such as a recreation center, RTD services, and emergency facilities will be integrated into the area. This transformative initiative is the result of a collaborative effort between the City of Aurora, ARTA, and Adams County, aiming to facilitate the eastern expansion of the Denver-Metro region. Carla Ferreira, Managing Principal for Aurora Highlands, emphasized the critical role of the new interchange in enhancing regional infrastructure and connectivity. The beacon erected at the Aurora Highlands symbolizes a guiding light for residents, signifying the commencement of a project that commenced in January 2023, culminating in the full W-470 interchange opening on the specified date and time.
