The move to the ACC comes 37 years after SMU received the NCAA's "death penalty" for recruiting violations.

Southern Methodist University celebrates its new ACC membership with a party in Dallas. Costumed mascots from all 18 ACC member teams were in attendance along with SMU President R. Gerald Turner. Their inaugural ACC football game is scheduled for Sept. 28.
