Pennsylvania Department of Transportation ramps up construction on major roads

This weekend, drivers in the Pittsburgh area should brace themselves for traffic disruptions as multiple road projects are set to take place. The Pavilion at Star Lake, known for slow-moving traffic, will see detours, closures, and lane restrictions on McKnight Road, I-79, and the Parkway East. PennDOT's District 11 Assistant Director for Construction, Doug Thompson, highlighted the need to shift traffic to outer lanes for concrete repairs and drainage work, making lanes feel narrow and urging drivers to exercise caution. On the Parkway East, a lane closure will be in effect from the Business Route 22 Monroeville Interchange to the bridge over Old William Penn Highway. Thompson explained that the lane closure will be temporary, with work progressing towards Rodi Road for bridge maintenance. The projects are scheduled to be completed by Monday morning's rush hour, with considerations made to minimize disruptions, such as scheduling the work when the Pirates are out of town. In addition to the aforementioned projects, the ramp from the Boulevard of the Allies onto the outbound Parkway East will also be closed from tonight until Monday morning. PennDOT emphasized the importance of completing these infrastructure improvements efficiently while acknowledging the inconvenience caused to motorists. With ongoing median and curb lane work, drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly and expect delays during the weekend construction activities.
