Yankees Acquire Jazz Chisholm Jr. in Trade with Marlins

The Yankees parted ways with catcher Agustín Ramírez, infielder Jared Serna, and infielder Abrahan Ramírez. This move comes as the Yankees face significant performance issues, particularly from third baseman DJ LeMahieu and left fielder Alex Verdugo, both of whom are experiencing prolonged slumps. Chisholm, a 26-year-old All-Star second baseman in 2022, has primarily played center field over the past two seasons. This year, he boasts a batting average of .249, with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs. Over his five-year career, he has maintained a .246 average, hitting 66 home runs and driving in 205 runs. Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised Chisholm's athleticism and versatility, highlighting his potential to contribute in various positions. LeMahieu, a two-time batting champion, has struggled significantly this season, hitting just .178 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 135 at-bats. His performance has been hampered by injuries, including a broken foot sustained during spring training. Meanwhile, Verdugo has also seen a decline, batting .160 since mid-June, which has lowered his overall average to .231. The minor leaguers traded to Miami have shown promise, with Agustín Ramírez hitting .269 with 20 home runs and 69 RBIs this season across Double-A and Triple-A. The Yankees hope that Chisholm's arrival will help turn their season around as they navigate ongoing challenges with their lineup.
