Deadly Texas floods claim lives and devastate communities

In early July 2025, catastrophic flash flooding devastated areas in Central Texas, particularly the Texas Hill Country, leading to significant destruction and loss of life. The floods, which were triggered by heavy rainfall during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, resulted in at least 119 fatalities, with many individuals reported missing. The hardest-hit areas included Kerr County, where the local government officially declared a disaster and activated relief efforts in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Community leaders are mobilizing resources to aid recovery, including a Kerr County Flood Relief Fund organized by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. In response to the ongoing disaster, organizations like H-E-B, a popular supermarket chain in Texas, announced initiatives to provide food and resources to those affected. H-E-B is deploying a mobile kitchen to feed those in need and is working alongside the Red Cross and local officials to determine further support measures. The American Red Cross has established several emergency shelters offering food, relief supplies, and mental health support. As part of its outreach, the Red Cross has two reunification centers open to connect families impacted by the flooding. World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit organization run by chef José Andrés, has also activated operations in Central Texas, providing essential supplies to first responders and victims. As local business communities come together to assist those in need, efforts are underway to survey affected properties and gauge the immediate needs of residents. The Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce has created a
