Eastern Australia has been experiencing a heatwave with temperatures soaring towards 40C in parts of western Sydney. This extreme heat, which has been prevalent for several days, is forecasted to transition rapidly to wet and stormy conditions. The Bureau of Meteorology has indicated that the weather will shift significantly as a cut-off low-pressure system over South Australia combines with a trough over eastern NSW, dragging in tropical moisture. Some areas in Sydney could see more than 100mm of rainfall, with forecasts predicting 10mm on Thursday, 20mm on Friday, and 25mm on Saturday. Thunderstorms are expected in Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne, which could lead to flash flooding as the storm patterns progress.
