OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — In a notable move on Friday, the Minnesota Vikings traded cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for Nahshon Wright. Both players, who have struggled to make a significant impact on their respective teams, were seen as potential cuts as training camp progresses. Booth, a second-round pick from Clemson in 2022, faced challenges during his tenure with the Vikings, including injuries that limited him to just six games in his rookie season. Although he played all 17 games last season, he failed to record an interception. The Vikings have been actively seeking to bolster their defensive backfield, marking Wright as their fifth addition since training camp began. This comes in the wake of the tragic death of rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson in a car accident last month. To enhance their roster, Minnesota recently signed veteran cornerback Fabian Moreau, along with safety Bobby McCain and cornerbacks Jacobi Francis and Duke Shelley. Wright, a third-round pick by the Cowboys in 2021, has had a modest career thus far, recording one interception and five pass breakups over 32 games. He struggled to secure a consistent role in Dallas's defensive lineup, falling behind DaRon Bland, who has emerged as a standout player with 14 interceptions in just 34 games. Bland's impressive performance included setting an NFL record for interception returns for touchdowns in the 2023 season.
