The estate of the late Michael Lang, co-creator of the iconic 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Festival, has been listed for sale just ahead of the festival's 55th anniversary. Lang resided at the 17-acre property in Mount Tremper, New York, for 45 years until his passing in early 2022. The estate, known as Happy Brooks, is on the market for $2.43 million, as reported by Mansion Global. Although the Woodstock festival took place approximately 40 miles away in Bethel, this location has been a significant cultural hub. Happy Brooks, described as “the Graceland of 1960s counter culture,” has a rich history of hosting artists, musicians, and writers. The main house, built in 1929 for artist G Adolph Anderson, has been a creative sanctuary for decades. The property features three primary structures made of stone and wood, showcasing a blend of artistic imagination and historical significance. The main residence boasts a double-height great room with a balcony, an upper-level library, and a large bluestone fireplace. Additional highlights include a formal dining room with mountain views, a family room with a built-in bread oven, and a conservatory topped with a 24-foot glass ceiling. The guest house and a third structure provide additional living space, while the grounds include a barn, a pool, extensive gardens, and a pond with a sculpture by Lang. This unique property not only represents Lang's legacy but also serves as a testament to the vibrant artistic community that has thrived in the Hudson Valley.
