Security forces intensify efforts to locate terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir

In Jammu and Kashmir, ongoing security operations have been triggered in the Poonch region as the Romeo Force of the Indian Army collaborates with the Special Operations Group to locate terrorists believed to be in the forest area of Lasana. The search strategy commenced on April 15, 2025, following a violent encounter with terrorists on April 14. Security personnel were ambushed, resulting in injuries to one of the security forces. The region is now on high alert, particularly along the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway, with continuous traffic checks being implemented to ensure safety and maintain order. Additional security measures have been reinforced across the region. Local traffic authorities, supported by District Police and Army units, have established checkpoint operations to monitor the movement of vehicles. This proactive approach aims to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure that none of the loaded trucks create traffic jams, which could hinder the operations or allow terrorists to escape. Authorities have emphasized the need for safety, highlighting their readiness to act swiftly if any suspicious activity is detected. Apart from the search operations in Poonch, related activities have occurred in the Baramulla district, where the Army's Chinar Corps successfully recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition. Less than two days before the ongoing search, officials reported retrieving two AK Series rifles, five magazines, one pistol, ten kilograms of RCIED, and various other military-grade materials. This recovery is a direct response to the heightened tension following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in multiple casualties and has spurred security forces into action across the Kashmir valley. The aftermath of a notable terrorist attack on April 23, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals in Pahalgam, has further intensified military operations. The assault, seen as one of the deadliest incidents in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack, has ignited concerns over security in the region. As soldiers track movements of individuals crossing into Indian territory from Pakistan, operations have become increasingly aggressive to eliminate any lurking threats. Security officials remain vigilant, carrying out continuous reconnaissance to detect and obstruct any terrorist infiltration attempts or movements across the Line of Control (LOC).
