Vienna Airport has significantly expanded its flagship store in Terminal 1, increasing its size by 67% to approximately 21,500 square feet. This redesign mimics the vibrant market stalls of Vienna's Naschmarkt, catering to the needs of travelers. The expansion comes in response to a surge in passenger traffic, with expectations to exceed 30 million this year, although still shy of the 2019 figures. The new duty-free shop aims to enhance the shopping experience by offering a wider variety of brands, a stronger regional assortment, and a modern atmosphere. Julian Jäger, the joint CEO of Vienna Airport, emphasized the importance of improving retail offerings to meet the exceptional demand observed during the summer months. The store now features exclusive product ranges and innovative digital aids, such as a lift-and-learn wine screen that provides instant information about selected wines. This technology aims to streamline the shopping experience for travelers. Additionally, a striking digital video wall measuring 43 feet high and 23 feet wide has been installed, currently showcasing the Steve Madden brand. This eye-catching feature is designed to attract the attention of passengers and enhance their shopping experience. The reopening of the store marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between Vienna Airport and Gebr. Heinemann. Looking ahead, the airport plans to further expand its retail space with a new 34,500-square-foot store set to open in 2027 as part of a $470 million southern expansion project. This initiative will enhance the overall retail services available to travelers, reflecting the airport's commitment to improving passenger experience and increasing revenue from non-aviation components.
