Intelsat and SES unite to dominate the new space race

In a bid to strengthen its position in the emerging satellite sector, Intelsat, a leading global satellite operator based in the United States, plans to enter an alliance with SES, a Luxembourg-based satellite technology company. This partnership aims to create a powerful player in Space Race II, which is characterized by rapid technological advances and an increasing number of new entrants in the industry. The collaboration comes on the heels of Intelsat's historical impact in the space sector, including its pioneering satellite, 'Early Bird', which played a significant role in broadcasting live footage of the Apollo Moon landing to millions worldwide in 1969. During a recent interview, Intelsat CEO Dave Wajsgras emphasized the company's commitment to fostering a cosmic culture that not only advances humanity in outer space but also promotes peace and connectivity on Earth. Wajsgras's insights reflect the ongoing transformation that satellite technology brings to civilization, citing that advancements like the creation of the internet and the launch of thousands of satellites are reshaping human interactions. Furthermore, the alliance with SES is expected to enhance the capabilities of both companies, enabling them to command a fleet of over 150 super-satellites in various orbits. To illustrate this humanitarian effort, Intelsat has partnered with the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative, led by actor Forest Whitaker, to provide satellite internet access to learning centers in South Sudan and Uganda, which have been significantly affected by conflict. Additionally, the company has teamed up with Help.NGO to restore internet connectivity in war-impacted regions of Ukraine.
