On the night of October 27-28, 2024, IndiGo inaugurated direct flights connecting Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, with Pune, Maharashtra. This new service is a significant addition to the air travel options available for residents and visitors, aiming to bolster economic and tourist connections between the two cities. Airport Director Ramji Awasthi confirmed that the inaugural flight from Pune reached Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal at 3:00 am and that the return flight from Bhopal to Pune departs at 3:40 am. The launch comes in response to growing demands for improved air travel options in the region, with local politicians advocating for new routes. Bhopal MP Alok Sharma played a crucial role in this development by meeting with the Union civil aviation minister to recommend new flights. Expectations are high that this new service will lead to increased business interactions and promote tourism, further enhancing the local economies. In addition to the Pune route, the introduction of flights to Kolkata is on the horizon, anticipated to commence next month. Such initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance air connectivity in Madhya Pradesh, as more routes are being planned, including destinations like Datia and Neemuch during the winter season. These developments highlight the ongoing efforts to expand transportation options for the people of Bhopal, ensuring accessibility to major urban centers and encouraging travel within the state and beyond.
