Authorities have arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with a vegetation fire that ignited near Geyserville, Sonoma County, on Wednesday afternoon. Justin Roy Jones, a resident of Anderson in Shasta County, was apprehended around 7:25 p.m., approximately three hours after the fire began. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) reported that Jones was observed driving a truck with a missing right front tire, which created sparks as it traveled along the road. The sparks from Jones' vehicle are believed to have ignited three separate fires along Chalk Hill Road, leading to a rapid spread of the blaze. Firefighters worked diligently to contain the fire, which ultimately grew to 36 acres before they halted its forward progress at 7:15 p.m. As of Thursday morning, the fire was reported to be 50% contained, and Chalk Hill Road, which had been closed since the fire's onset, has since reopened to traffic. Jones has been booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of unlawfully and recklessly starting a fire to any structure, forestland, or property, in addition to violating the terms of his probation. Jail records indicate that he is scheduled to appear in court on Friday to face these allegations. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding fire safety and the potential consequences of reckless behavior in fire-prone areas.
