Story

On August 4, violent confrontations erupted outside the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, Rotherham, involving brothers Luke and Paul Sissons. Sheffield Crown Court was presented with body-worn camera footage showing Luke Sissons, 34, aggressively confronting police officers while part of a mob that attacked a police dog van. The court heard that the Sissons brothers were among over 20 individuals sentenced for their roles in the disorder, which resulted in injuries to 58 police officers, three police dogs, and a police horse, as well as attempts to set the hotel ablaze. The court also examined the actions of Christopher Rodgers, a self-employed gas fitter who filmed the riots on Snapchat. Despite initially documenting the chaos, he later joined a group that hurled missiles at police officers. Rodgers, 38, was sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in the violence, which occurred while the hotel was sheltering over 200 individuals. His aggressive behavior during his arrest further contributed to the severity of his sentence. In a related case, two men involved in riots in Hull received prison sentences after pleading guilty to violent disorder. One of the defendants, Chapman, claimed he was not part of the initial protest but was swept up in the mob's violence. He received a 28-month detention sentence, while his co-defendant's sentence was mitigated due to his responsibilities as a single parent. Additionally, a young man in Middlesbrough was sentenced to 20 months for violent disorder after kicking a police officer and setting fire to a wheelie bin during the unrest.
