Guernsey Music Service to Train Youth Orchestra in Caribbean

The Guernsey Music Service is set to play a pivotal role in the development of the Small Beginnings Youth Orchestra in Montserrat, as part of a summer school initiative running from August 12 to 22. This collaboration marks the second phase of a project that began earlier this year when Guernsey donated over 30 musical instruments to the Caribbean island. A dedicated team from Guernsey will travel to Montserrat to facilitate a comprehensive musical program aimed at local youth. Tim Wright, Head of the Guernsey Music Service, emphasized the significance of this initiative, describing it as a "remarkable opportunity" for both islands to strengthen their cultural ties through music. He expressed enthusiasm about working with Montserrat's authorities to demonstrate how music can serve as a unifying force, fostering friendship and creating future opportunities for young people in both regions. Montserrat's Governor, Sarah Tucker, expressed her delight in supporting this connection with Guernsey. She hopes the summer school will not only provide a memorable experience for the children involved but also lay the groundwork for a lasting friendship between the two islands. This partnership aims to facilitate shared experiences for youth in Montserrat and Guernsey, enriching their cultural and musical education.
