Rolls-Royce draws inspiration from ancient Chinese murals for luxury vehicles

In a remarkable display of craftsmanship, Rolls-Royce introduced three bespoke automobile models inspired by the ancient mural paintings at the Dunhuang Mogao Caves in China. This creative project highlights the melding of historical artistry with modern engineering. The three models include the Phantom Extended, the Black Badge Cullinan, and the Black Badge Spectre, each designed with intricate details reflecting the unique features of the murals. Shuai Feng, a bespoke designer, emphasized the importance of the murals as a symbol of cultural heritage and aimed to reinterpret their colors and symbolism through innovative hand-painted elements and bespoke features. The Phantom Extended stands out with its Ningye Purple paint, designed to evoke the skies above the Great Wall of China. Inside, a starlight headliner with 1,344 fiber-optic stars is a highlight. The carefully curated interior features nods to Buddhist art, combining tradition with luxury. The Black Badge Cullinan boasts Danqian Pink paintwork, complemented with a custom starlight headliner illuminated with pink lights. Additionally, thematic motifs are integrated throughout the vehicle to create a cohesive design inspired by the Dunhuang murals. Completing the trio, the Black Badge Spectre showcases a striking two-tone color scheme of Diamond Black and Qingshan Blue. The luxurious design elements extend inside, including illuminated treadplates and a starlight headliner with meticulously placed stars. Each vehicle represents not only a technological achievement but also a tribute to the rich cultural tapestry of China.
