Taiwan has recently hosted the 2025 Taiwan International Geothermal Conference on April 24-25 in Taipei City. This event highlighted the government's strong commitment to enhancing the country's position in the green energy sector. Organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs Energy Bureau for the third consecutive year, the conference brought together over 700 attendees, including academics, industry professionals, and officials both domestically and internationally. Key stakeholders from countries such as Canada, New Zealand, the Philippines, and the United States participated by delivering speeches and engaging in panel discussions and workshops. The Vice Economic Minister Lai Chien-hsin emphasized the crucial role of renewable energy in Taiwan's energy transition. The government is placing significant importance on geothermal energy, demonstrated by the establishment of six geothermal energy power plants, with more set to be completed within the year. Lai expressed optimism about collaboration between Taiwanese enterprises and international counterparts to attain net-zero emission objectives and address severe climate challenges. Discussions at the conference encompassed a wide array of topics, including updates on geothermal initiatives in Taiwan, global trends in renewable energy, innovative technologies, and local government policies aimed at promoting geothermal power generation. Key presentations were made by representatives from the MOEA Energy Administration and Geological Survey and Mining Management Agency, who detailed Taiwan's strategic vision and progress in geothermal exploration. Additionally, CPC Corp., Taiwan and Taiwan Power Co. showcased their technological advancements and potential future developments. The agenda included a focus on future geothermal project management and the exchange of international drilling experiences, aimed at positioning Taiwan more competitively within the global green energy market. Toward the end of the conference, a panel led by Lee Chun-li, the active director general of the EA, delved into discussions on attracting international investments and boosting Taiwan's competitiveness in the green energy field. Workshops on key subjects such as drilling technology, exploration methods, equipment applications, and geothermal solutions were conducted on April 25. Furthermore, international guests had the opportunity to visit Taiwan's first deep geothermal well located in Yuanshan Township, Yilan County, to enhance their understanding of the geothermal energy development potential in the region.
