Mumbai, August 13 – A local train bound for Thane from Karjat overshot a red signal at Badlapur Railway station, raising safety concerns within the Central Railway’s Mumbai division. The incident occurred around 2:25 PM when the train failed to halt at the UP line starter signal (S-24), which had been displaying a red danger signal since 2:15 PM. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the train arrived at the signal at 2:24 PM but continued past it, prompting immediate action from railway officials. Following the incident, railway authorities launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the signal overshoot. The motorman, identified as KR Yadav, reported that he applied the brakes in time; however, technical malfunctions may have contributed to the train's failure to stop. Contrarily, some sources suggest that the brakes were not engaged promptly, with the guard eventually activating the emergency brake. A senior official from Central Railway emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting that signal overshooting poses significant safety risks in railway operations. The investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability. As the inquiry progresses, railway officials are expected to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future, reinforcing the importance of adherence to safety protocols in train operations.
